Annwyl Deuluoedd,


Yr wythnos hon, mae ein disgyblion wedi ymchwilio i daith gyffrous o archwilio iaith, gan gyfuno creadigrwydd, hanes, a dysgu trochol i gryfhau eu rhuglder yn y Gymraeg.


Dechreuodd yr wythnos gyda phlymiad dwfn i ysgrifennu dyddiaduron, lle defnyddiodd y plant eu geirfa gynyddol i lunio disgrifiadau cyfoethog, defnyddio personoli, a mireinio eu defnydd o iaith amser gorffennol. Trwy gemau deniadol a chyfarwyddyd rhyngweithiol, fe wnaethant archwilio idiomau, emosiynau, a thechnegau ar gyfer creu agoriadau trawiadol, gan sicrhau bod eu dyddiaduron nid yn unig yn gadarn yn strwythurol ond hefyd yn atgofus ac yn fynegiannol. I ysbrydoli eu hysgrifennu, myfyriodd y disgyblion ar eu hymweliad â Phwll Mawr, gan dynnu ar brofiadau uniongyrchol i ddod â'u naratifau'n fyw. Rhoddodd y daith gipolwg diddorol ar orffennol diwydiannol Cymru, gan roi dyfnder a dilysrwydd i'w hysgrifennu.


Yn dilyn hyn, dechreuodd y plant astudio monologau, gan symud eu ffocws i iaith amser presennol ac amser dyfodol. Fe wnaethant archwilio nodweddion ysgrifennu monologau, gan ddysgu sut i blethu idiomau, cwestiynau rhethregol, ac enghreifftiau cyfoethog i'w gwaith. Trwy sgaffaldiau ieithyddol strwythuredig, fe wnaethant ehangu eu geirfa a dyfnhau eu dealltwriaeth o sut mae llais a phersbectif yn llunio adrodd straeon.


Yn ganolog i'r archwiliad hwn oedd hanes Capel Celyn, pennod deimladwy yn hanes Cymru a ysgogodd drafodaeth a myfyrdod meddylgar. Ar un adeg roedd Capel Celyn yn gymuned Gymraeg lewyrchus yng Nghwm Tryweryn. Yn y 1960au, er gwaethaf protestiadau cryf, cafodd y pentref ei foddi i greu cronfa ddŵr a oedd yn cyflenwi dŵr i Lerpwl, gan ddisodli ei thrigolion a dileu tirnod diwylliannol â gwreiddiau dwfn. Mae colli Capel Celyn yn parhau i fod yn symbol pwerus o wydnwch a'r frwydr i ddiogelu hunaniaeth Gymreig. Wrth iddynt ymgysylltu â'r hanes hwn, ystyriodd y plant sut mae llais a phersbectif yn dal emosiwn, anghyfiawnder a chof - gan drwytho'r themâu hyn yn eu monologau.

Dear Families,


This week, our pupils have delved into an exciting journey of language exploration, combining creativity, history, and immersive learning to strengthen their Welsh fluency.


The week began with a deep dive into diary writing, where the children harnessed their expanding vocabulary to craft rich descriptions, employ personification, and refine their use of past-tense language. Through engaging games and interactive instruction, they explored idioms, emotions, and techniques for crafting striking openings, ensuring their diaries were not only structurally sound but also evocative and expressive. To inspire their writing, the pupils reflected on their visit to Big Pit, drawing on firsthand experiences to bring their narratives to life. The trip provided a fascinating glimpse into Wales’ industrial past, giving their writing both depth and authenticity.

Following this, the children embarked on a study of monologues, shifting their focus to present and future-tense language. They examined the characteristics of monologue writing, learning how to weave idioms, rhetorical questions, and rich examples into their work. Through structured linguistic scaffolding, they expanded their vocabulary and deepened their understanding of how voice and perspective shape storytelling.


Central to this exploration was the history of Capel Celyn, a poignant chapter in Welsh history that sparked thoughtful discussion and reflection. Capel Celyn was once a thriving Welsh-speaking community in the Tryweryn Valley. In the 1960s, despite strong protests, the village was flooded to create a reservoir supplying water to Liverpool, displacing its residents and erasing a deeply rooted cultural landmark. The loss of Capel Celyn remains a powerful symbol of resilience and the fight to preserve Welsh identity. As they engaged with this history, the children considered how voice and perspective capture emotion, injustice, and remembrance—infusing these themes into their monologues.
