Annwyl Deuluoedd,

Un wythnos sydd i fynd! Dydyn ni methu credu pa mor gyflym mae amser wedi hedfan!

Uchafbwyntiau’r Wythnos

Roedd y plant llawn egni ar ddechrau’r wythnos. Gweithiodd y plant yn galed er mwyn adnabod anifeiliaid y byd yn unigol a lluosog. Roedd y plant yn gystadleuol wrth chwarae snap, parau, cardiau lŵp ac wrth geisio bod y plentyn olaf yn sefyll wrth adnabod anifeiliaid. Roedd hefyd cyfle i ymarfer sgiliau adio. Dysgodd a defnyddiodd y plant ansoddeiriau i ddisgrifio’r jyngl. Roedd y plant gwir wedi mwynhau gwrando ar gwestiynau ac edrych mewn pwll o beli am yr ateb. Gwrandawodd y plant ar stori am ‘Antur Carlo yn y jyngl’ cyn dechrau dysgu’r stori trwy ychwanegu symudiadau i’r geiriau. Cafodd y plant wedyn cyfle i drafod beth i bacio mewn ces ar gyfer trip i’r jyngl. Roedd e’n braf clywed y plant yn esbonio pam.

Uchafbwynt yr wythnos wrth gwrs oedd ein seremoni graddio. Roedd y plant gwir wedi mwynhau ac maen nhw yn barod yn gofyn am un arall. Diolch i chi am eich cefnogaeth. Yn y prynhawn defnyddiodd y plant ansoddeiriau penodol er mwyn dylunio anifail. Roedd y plant hefyd wedi creu stori am fynd i’r jyngl fel grŵp. Roedd cyfle i berfformio’r stori fel grŵp hefyd.

Tuag at ddiwedd yr wythnos, roedd cyfle i’r plant mynegi barn am ei hoff anifeiliaid a didoli anifeiliaid fel grŵp. Y darn anodd oedd cytuno, fel grŵp, am yr anifeiliaid roedd y grŵp i gyd yn hoffi neu ddim yn hoffi.

I orffen yr wythnos, dysgodd y plant am idiomau gwahanol trwy gyflawni jig-so a helfa.

Araith Seremoni Graddio Dr. Williamson-Dicken

Fel rhan o'n seremoni raddio yr wythnos hon, siaradodd Dr. Williamson-dicken am bwysigrwydd dwyieithrwydd a pha mor falch ydyn ni i gyd o'r plant sydd wedi dod trwy'r garfan gyntaf hon o Carreg Lam:

Bore da a Chroeso,

Heddiw, rydym wedi ymuno i ddathlu’r plant rhyfeddol hyn - carfan gyntaf Carreg Lam - Canolfan Drochi Iaith Gymraeg Torfaen. Rydym hefyd yn cwrdd i ddathlu cyfoeth a gwytnwch yr iaith Gymraeg ac i bwysleisio pwysigrwydd dwyieithrwydd yn ein cymdeithas. Mae gan yr iaith Gymraeg le arbennig yn ein calonnau, gan nad yw'n fodd i gyfathrebu yn unig ond yn symbol o'n treftadaeth ddiwylliannol a'n hunaniaeth.

Am ganrifoedd, mae'r iaith Gymraeg wedi'i phlethu i wead ein cenedl, gan warchod ein hanes, ein straeon a'n traddodiadau. Mae wedi hindreulio stormydd o hanes, ac er gwaethaf heriau, mae'n parhau i ffynnu. Mae'n parhau i ffynnu yn Torfaen oherwydd ein hysgolion, athrawon ac, yn bwysicaf oll, plant. Ein plant Carreg Lam yw'r wreichionen fwyaf newydd o'n hiaith. Gyda'n gilydd, rydym wedi ymrwymo i warchod yr iaith Gymraeg ac i warchod ein hunaniaeth Gymraeg unigryw.

Mae dwyieithrwydd yn rym pwerus sy'n pontio diwylliannau ac yn cysylltu cymunedau. Mae cofleidio dwyieithrwydd yng Nghymru yn meithrin dealltwriaeth, cynwysoldeb a gwerthfawrogiad o ieithoedd a diwylliannau. Pan fyddwn yn dysgu ac yn siarad sawl iaith, rydym yn agor drysau i gyfleoedd newydd, yn cyfoethogi ein bywydau personol a phroffesiynol, ac yn cryfhau cydlyniant cymdeithasol. Mae'r 9 plentyn hyn wedi gafael yn yr iaith Gymraeg mewn ffordd newydd a ffres.

Mae dwyieithrwydd wedi profi buddion gwybyddol, gan wella ystwythder meddyliol a meddwl yn greadigol. Mae'n annog meddwl agored a phersbectif ehangach ar y byd, sy'n hanfodol yn ein cymdeithas fyd-eang gynyddol ryng-gysylltiedig.

Wrth inni symud ymlaen, rhaid inni gofleidio dwyieithrwydd nid fel baich ond fel ased gwerthfawr. Rhaid inni barhau i fuddsoddi ynddo ac annog defnyddio ieithoedd Cymraeg ac ieithoedd eraill yn ein hysgolion, gweithleoedd a lleoedd cyhoeddus oherwydd bydd hynny'n creu cymdeithas fywiog ac amrywiol sy'n dathlu ei threftadaeth ieithyddol unigryw wrth ymgysylltu â'r byd ehangach.

Teuluoedd a rhieni, rydym yn diolch ichi am eich cefnogaeth ac am ddarparu rhodd yr iaith Gymraeg i'ch plant. Rydych chi wedi hyrwyddo'r iaith Gymraeg, nid allan o ymdeimlad o rwymedigaeth, ond allan o'r ddealltwriaeth rydych chi am roi'r cyfleoedd gorau posibl i'ch plant mewn bywyd, allan o falchder yn ein gwreiddiau ac allan o ymrwymiad i warchod ein tapestri diwylliannol am genedlaethau i ddod. Mae cofleidio dwyieithrwydd yn gyfrifoldeb a rennir, ac mae gan bob un ohonom ran i'w chwarae. Diolch am chwarae'ch rhan.

Dim ond wrth gwrs y mae hyn wedi cael ei wneud wrth gwrs trwy gyllid hael Llywodraeth Cymru a Chyngor Bwrdeistref Sir Torfaen. Diolchwn i'r sefydliadau hyn trwy eu cynrychiolwyr yma heddiw.

Mae staff Carreg Lam hefyd yn dymuno diolch i benaethiaid a staff Ysgol Bryn Onnen ac Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân am eu cefnogaeth. Heboch chi, ni fyddai hyn yn bosibl.

Fodd bynnag, rwyf am ddiolch yn bersonol i ddau unigolyn sydd wedi gweithio eu gorau glas yn darparu rhaglen wych, ddi-stop, 12 wythnos o drochi Cymraeg i'r plant hyn. Mae faint o waith yn sefydlu popeth ar gyfer y garfan gyntaf yn Carreg Lam wedi bod yn aruthrol. Ffrindiau, ni fyddech yn credu faint o waith dan sylw. Felly, diolchwn i Mrs. Carys Soper - arweinydd ein canolfan drochi - a Miss Megan Stokes - ei cynorthwyydd arbennig. Mae gan y ddwy ddynes ryfeddol hyn eich plentyn wrth wraidd popeth maent yn gwneud.

Gyda'n gilydd, gallwn adeiladu Cymru lle mae'r iaith Gymraeg yn ffynnu, ac mae ein cymunedau'n cael eu cyfoethogi gan amrywiaeth yr ieithoedd a siaredir. Gadewch inni barhau i goleddu a meithrin y dreftadaeth ieithyddol werthfawr hon, fel y gallai barhau i flodeuo a ffynnu.

I gloi, fe'ch gwahoddaf i gyd i roi eich dwylo at ei gilydd i ddathlu ein carfan Lam Carreg gyntaf, yr iaith Gymraeg a chofleidio dwyieithrwydd. Gadewch inni sefyll yn falch o'n treftadaeth ieithyddol a chydweithio i greu Cymru fwy cynhwysol, unedig a chyfoethog.

Patrymau Iaith a Geirfa’r Wythnos Nesaf

Mae ein hwythnos sydd i ddod ychydig yn wahanol i'r arferol o ran patrymau iaith a geirfa newydd. Bron a gorffen y rhaglen trochi iaith, wythnos 12 yw ein wythnos olaf a’n hwythnos adolygu ac ailadrodd. Felly, byddwn yn edrych ar yr holl iaith yr ydym wedi'i dysgu ar hyd y rhaglen ac yn dathlu llwyddiant ein plant!

Wedi atodi, eto, yw’n llyfryn patrymau iaith a geirfa.

One week is to go! We can't believe how fast time has flown!

Highlights of the Week

The children were full of energy at the start of the week. The children worked hard to identify the animals of the world individually and multiple. The children were competitive in playing snap, pairs, loop cards and trying to be the last child standing in identifying animals. There was also an opportunity to practice adding skills. The children learned and used adjectives to describe the jungle. The really children enjoyed listening to questions and looking in a pool of balls for the answer. The children listened to a story about 'Carlo's adventure in the jungle' before starting to learn the story by adding movements to the words. The children then had the opportunity to discuss what to pack in CES for a trip to the jungle. It was nice to hear the children explain why.

The highlight of the week was of course our graduation ceremony. The true children enjoyed and they are already asking for another. Thank you for your support. In the afternoon the children used certain adjectives to design an animal. The children also created a story about going to the jungle as a group. There was also an opportunity to perform the story as a group.

Towards the end of the week, there was an opportunity for the children to express opinions on their favourite animals and sort animals as a group. The difficult piece was to agree, as a group, about the animals that the group all liked or didn't like.

To finish the week, the children learned about different idioms by achieving a jigsaw and a hunt.

Dr. Williamson-Dicken's Graduation Speech

As a part of our graduation ceremony this week, Dr. Williamson-Dicken spoke about the importance of bilingualism and how proud we all are of the children who have come through this first cohort of Carreg Lam:

Bore da a Chroeso,

Today, we have joined together to celebrate these wonderful children - the first cohort of Carreg Lam - Torfaen’s Welsh language immersion centre. We also meet to celebrate the richness and resilience of the Welsh language and to emphasize the importance of bilingualism in our society. The Welsh language holds a special place in our hearts, as it is not just a means of communication but a symbol of our cultural heritage and identity.

For centuries, the Welsh language has been woven into the fabric of our nation, preserving our history, stories, and traditions. It has weathered storms of history, and despite challenges, it continues to thrive. It continues to thrive in Torfaen because of our schools, teachers and, most importantly, children. Our Carreg Lam children are the newest spark of our language. Together, we are committed to preserving the Welsh language and to preserving our unique Welsh identity.

Bilingualism is a powerful force that bridges cultures and connects communities. Embracing bilingualism in Wales fosters understanding, inclusivity, and appreciation of languages and cultures. When we learn and speak multiple languages, we open doors to new opportunities, enrich our personal and professional lives, and strengthen social cohesion. These 9 children have grasped the Welsh language in a new and a fresh way.

Bilingualism has proven cognitive benefits, enhancing mental agility and creative thinking. It encourages open-mindedness and a broader perspective on the world, which is essential in our increasingly interconnected global society.

As we move forward, we must embrace bilingualism not as a burden but as a valuable asset. We must continue to invest into it and encouraging the use of Welsh and other languages in our schools, workplaces, and public spaces because that will create a vibrant and diverse society that celebrates its unique linguistic heritage while engaging with the wider world.

Families and parents, we thank you for your support and for providing your children with the gift of the Welsh language. You have promoted the Welsh language, not out of a sense of obligation, but out of the understanding that you want to give your children the best possible opportunities in life, out of pride in our roots and out of a commitment to preserving our cultural tapestry for generations to come. Embracing bilingualism is a shared responsibility, and we all have a role to play. Thank you for playing your part.

Carreg Lam staff also wish to thank the Headteachers and Staff of Ysgol Bryn Onnen and Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân for their support. Without you, this would not be possible.

However, I want to personally thank two individuals who have worked their socks off provide a fantastic, non-stop, 12 week programme of Welsh immersion for these children. The amount of work setting up everything for the first cohort at Carreg Lam has been immense. Friends, you would not believe the amount of work involved. So, we thank Mrs. Carys Soper - our immersion centre’s leader - and Miss Megan Stokes - her right hand woman. These two wonderful ladies have your child at heart.

Together, we can build a Wales where the Welsh language thrives, and our communities are enriched by the diversity of languages spoken. Let us continue to cherish and cultivate this precious linguistic heritage, so that it may continue to blossom and flourish.

In conclusion, I invite you all to put your hands together to celebrate our first Carreg Lam cohort, the Welsh language and embracing bilingualism. Let us stand proud of our linguistic heritage and work together to create a more inclusive, united, and enriched Wales.

Next Week’s Language Patterns and Vocabulary

Our coming week is slightly different from the usual in terms of new language patterns and vocabulary. Coming to an end of the language immersion program, week 12 is our last week and our review and recap week. So, we'll look at all the language we have learned throughout the program and celebrate the success of our children!
